MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – The Madison Metropolitan School District held ribbon-cuttings at its four comprehensive high schools.

In 2020, voters passed a $350 million, four-year referendum for the school district.

A large chunk of that money was poured into the four comprehensive high schools. They had extensive renovations, including:

  • Updated heating, air conditioning, and filtration
  • New spaces for the arts
  • Classrooms for career and technical education
  • Renovations to stadiums, locker rooms, and gyms
  • Updated plumbing

Throughout the day Friday, staff traveled to all four high schools for grand openings that included tours and ribbon-cuttings.

“Each of these schools is a resource we can all take pride in, and that will help purposefully move our district and city forward with confidence,” superintendent Joe Gothard said in a statement.

District leaders want the community to see what their extra tax dollars did for students.

That’s especially important when there’s another referendum on the ballot in November. The district is asking taxpayers for $507 million in capital projects, and $100 million for operating costs.
