Bomb threat triggers evacuation of Oshkosh Walmart

Police evacuated the Walmart Superstore in Oshkosh following a bomb threat Sunday evening. In a Facebook post, Oshkosh Police say they were notified of a bomb threat at Walmart on Washburn Avenue at 6:25 pm.

OSHKOSH, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – Police evacuated the Walmart Superstore in Oshkosh following a bomb threat Sunday evening. In a Facebook post, Oshkosh Police say they were notified of a bomb threat at Walmart on Washburn Avenue at 6:25 pm. 

An explosive detecting K9 from Winnebago County Sheriff’s office with officers and store employees checked the business. No bomb was found. The incident is still under investigation. The Oshkosh Police have identified a possible suspect in Illinois.

OSHKOSH POLICE DEPARTMENT

Subject: Bomb Threat—Walmart 351 S. Washburn St.

On 09/08/2024 at 6:25 PM, the Oshkosh Police Department was notified of a bomb threat at Walmart located at 351 S. Washburn St. in the City of Oshkosh. Upon receiving the threat, the store immediately evacuated staff and customers. Officers assisted the store with shutting down entrances and assisting employees. Once the store was evacuated, an explosive detecting K9 from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office assisted along with other officers and employees in checking the business for suspicious items.

Once the building was deemed safe and the threat no longer credible, the business resumed normal operation.

Detectives and officers from the Oshkosh Police Department were able to track down a potential suspect residing in Illinois. An agency in Illinois made contact with the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
