OAK CREEK, Wis. (Civic Media) — Buc-ee’s plans to open its first Wisconsin location in Oak Creek. City officials and reps with the Texas-based travel center chain made the announcement Thursday.
The proposed 73,370-square-foot facility would be at the southwest corner of I-94 and Elm Road, and feature 120 gas pumps, ethanol-free fuel, and EV charging stations.
It’s estimated to have 175 full-time employees across three shifts. The 29-acre site includes 7 acres for green space and a retention pond.
Stan Beard, Jr., Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development, expressed excitement about the expansion but noted that several approvals are still needed, “Buc-ee’s is excited to have the opportunity of adding Oak Creek to our expansion into Wisconsin. We have plan submittals, commission approvals and final city council decisions to be made before we can put a shovel in the ground, and that process officially begins with the January 28 Plan Commission meeting.”
The Oak Creek Plan Commission will discuss rezoning for the project on Jan. 28. Two public hearings are scheduled for February 17 and March 18.
Pending approvals, the travel center aims for an early 2027 opening.
This marks Buc-ee’s second attempt at a Wisconsin location, following a delayed project in DeForest due to funding problems and construction issues.
