Tony Evers Comments on the Importance of Immigrants

OSHKOSH, WI- (WISS) – Following the State of the State address Wednesday, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers visited Oshkosh where he told reporters that he doesn’t know how he would respond to actions brought to the state by the United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement or ICE. But he does know that immigrants are important to the state’s economy and culture. 

“All I can say is that the people of Wisconsin are concerned about the fact that we have people, immigrants, working in all sorts of industries in the state,” said Evers. “We love those people. They’re doing good work, whether they are milking cows or doing processing of meats across the state. You name it, they’re a major part of our economy. We can’t afford to have them scared away and leave our state.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a federal judge temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order to disallow birthright citizenship to those born to parents here illegally. The case is one of several lawsuits being brought by 22 states including Wisconsin and immigrant rights groups

Evers also visited Milwaukee and Rhinelander on Thursday to meet with local leaders and community members.
