RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – A high-speed crash in Racine has claimed the life of 17-year-old Tyreana Scales, who died of her injuries Tuesday, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
The impact occurred early Sunday morning when a Chevy Camaro, allegedly driven by 34-year-old Salvador Coronado, collided with Scales’ vehicle at the intersection of 16th Street and Taylor Avenue.
Moments before the crash, a sheriff’s deputy had clocked Coronado’s Camaro traveling at 90 mph. The collision left four other teenagers injured, with one still hospitalized as of Tuesday.
Coronado, who had broken bones and other injuries, remains in the hospital. He has a history of traffic violations and was on state supervision at the time of the crash, having previously served an 18-month prison sentence for fleeing an officer and related charges.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, because of the involvement of Racine law enforcement. Charges against Coronado are pending his release from the hospital.
