With 90 degree temperatures on the way this weekend staying cool will be tougher if you work or play outdoors.
Katie Rousonelos of Wisconsin Emergency Management says knowing the differences between Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke might save the life of someone who has been out in the sun too long.
She says some symptoms are similar. There will be headaches, nausea, and muscle-cramping. There will also be a rapid pulse. Those suffering Heat Exhaustion will sweat profusely, and their skin will feel cool. She says they will also be breathing rapidly, and their temperature may be normal or as high as 102 degrees.
With Heat Stroke a person isn’t sweating at all but their skin is hot. She says for someone suffering from Heat Exhaustion, get them out of the heat, loosen tight clothing and give them cool fluids.
For Heat Stroke call 911 immediately, get them cool water or fluids, and reduce their body temperature as rapidly as possible.
