RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – Are you looking for something to do this weekend in our area? We have you covered!

The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board is sponsoring a series of canoe outings on the Wisconsin River through July. The large voyageur replica canoes commissioned by the State of Wisconsin in conjunction with the sesquicentennial in 1998 are used for the trips that explore different segments of the river. Trips are scheduled for Thursday (June 19) from 9:00a to 2:00p from Lone Rock to Gotham; Monday, June 23, from 9:00A to 2:00P from Spring Green to Lone Rock; Tuesday, June 24, from 9:00a to 2:00p from Port Andrew to Boscobel; and Wednesday, June 25, from 9:00a to 1:00p from Muscoda to Port Andrew. Additional trips will be held Monday and Tuesday, June 30 and July 1, and Thursday, July 3, at various times and locations. To make a reservation or to ask questions about the canoe trips, contact the Riverway Board office Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 4:00 at 608-739-3188 or by emailing [email protected]. Additional information may be found on the Riverway Board website or Facebook page. Seating is limited to 14 people for each excursion and reservations are required.

Richland County residents, 60 or older, or a Native American age 55 or older, meeting the income requirements are eligible for Senior Farmers’ Market vouchers. Vouchers will be distributed Thursday, June 19, from 10:00a to 11:00a at the Tom Woodman Villa Community Room. Vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. If you are homebound, or unable to get to a distribution site, you may assign an authorized representative. The Animal House Food Stand will be open Thursday, and Friday, June 19 & 20, from 10:00a to 2:00p at Krouskop Park.

Senior Farmers’ Market vouchers for Grant County residents will be distributed on a first come, first served basis Thursday, June 19, from 11:00a to Noon at the Montfort Meal Site. If you are homebound, or unable to get to a distribution site, you may assign an authorized representative. Contact ADRC of Grant County at 608-723-6113.

The International Crane Foundation will host a webinar, Guardians of the Wetlands—12 Years of Crane Conservation and Community Resilience in Rwanda on Thursday, June 19, from 11:00a to Noon. Sponsored by the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, explore how this holistic model is not only safeguarding Rwanda’s biodiversity but also improving livelihoods and inspiring a new generation of conservation stewards.

The Richland Center Lions will be hosting a monthly evening at the Fairgounds to sell concessions the third Thursday of each month from 5:00p to 8:00p through September. The final night will be Thursday, October 9. Car enthusiasts are invited to bring their cars to showcase.

The Walk with GRACE planning committee meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:00p at the GRACE Office. All are welcome to attend. Volunteers are always needed. The GRACE Office is located above Royal Bank in downtown Richland Center.

The public is invited to a special presentation on Thursday, June 19, from 6:00p to 8:00p at The Highground Welcome Center to hear Vietnam Veteran Nurse Sarah L. Blum discuss her newest book, Warrior Nurse: PTSD and Healing and her Vietnam War service. Sarah’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing. The presentation is open to the public; however, the subjects discussed will not be appropriate for children under 16. The event will be offered in-person at The Highground and online/virtually. Friday, June 20

The Richland Resilience Group will hold a prairie work day at Frank’s Hill Sunday, June 20. A tour will be held at 9:00 followed by work at 10:00a and lunch at 11:00a. Refreshments will be provided. Workers should bring a bag lunch, long sleeve shirt, pants, and hat, work gloves, and a trench shovel or spade. For more information call Ellen Tyler at 262-470-1573.

Miss Purdy and Nestor will be out and about on the following dates accompanied by their donkey crew, members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13 and American legion Post 13 : Friday, June 20, at Pine Valley Community Village; and Friday, July 11, at Our House. All visits will start at 10:00a depending on weather and military funerals. Visit with the residents, staff, and of course Miss Purdy and Nestor at any of the stops.

Adventureland, sponsored by Richland County 4-H, will be held on Fridays, June 20 through July 25 (No program on July 4th) from 10:30a until Noon, at the Brewer Public Library. Explore the science of bubbles, how plants grow, to Wisconsin Wildlife and much more hands-on activities! FREE and no registration required, for youth 5K-6th grade. A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Friday, June 20, from 11:30a to 5:30p at the Rescue Squad Building in Mineral Point. Appointments are preferred by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or go online to redcrossblood.org.

The Willow Valley United Methodist Church Strawberry Shortcake Social scheduled for Friday, June 20, is canceled.

The 56th annual Mt. Hope Dairy Days Parade will be held Friday, June 20. Enjoy an ice cream social from 5:00p to 7:00p. The parade will step off at 7:00.

Saturday, June 21

The Kickapoo Area Food Pantry will be held at the Viola Municipal Building Saturday, June 21, from 9:00a to 11:00a and Monday, June 23, from 4:00 to 6:00. Sign in at the building and volunteers will load your vehicles. For more information call 608-627-1910.

The Little Lamb’s Closet, held at Park Street Christian Church, sponsored by the Richland County Right to Life, is open the third Saturday of the month starting at 9:30a. Please use the Park Street entrance.

Free milk and cheese is available the third Saturday of each month from 9:30a until gone at Park Street Christian Church. Use the Seminary Street entrance.

Grow and Gather: Garden Propagation with Abbie Lehman will be presented Saturday, June 21 from 9:30a to 12:30p. Join Kitchen Gardener, Abbie Lehman, in the Kitchen Garden at Taliesin to learn all about the power of propagation, and how it can help you share and extend the life of your garden bounty. Ocooch Mountain Humane Society will host a Happy Trails Dog Walk Saturday, June 21, from 10:00a to 2:00p. This free event will be held at the Woodman Happy Tails Dog Park in Richland Center. Dog Trainer Dave Barron will also be on hand for questions. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The International Crane Foundation in Baraboo will host An Evening with the Cranes Saturday, June 21, beginning at 4:00p . Enjoy beverages and food while you meet local and regional staff and, of course, cranes. Tickets are $100 for members, $120 for non-members and can be purchased at savingcranes.org. The Greater Richland Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 4th annual Taste of the Hills at Krouskop Park Saturday, June 21, from 4:00p to 9:00p. Live music starting with Chellenie Grunwald and closing out with local favorite 3 Souls. A variety of food and drinks will be available on the grounds. No admission and no carry-ins. Bring you lawn chair.

Sunday, June 22

The 44th annual Hillsboro Lions Appreciation Dairy Breakfast will be held Sunday, June 22, from 7:00a to 12:30p at the Hillsboro Fireman’s Park. The event will include entertainment, ag awareness activities, and vendors. The requested donation for the breakfast is $10 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

The Highland Historical Society will be holding a Farmer’s Market Saturday’s, through October, from 8:00a until 11:00a at the Old High School building in Highland. Produce, and various other items, will be available for purchase.

Richland Center Free Methodist Church will host a Concert of Worship featuring Katy Maples and Allie Crummy Sunday, June 22, at 10:30a. The service will feature light acoustic rock and some of their own original compositions. If you can’t make it Sunday morning, a lawn concert will be held at the church Sunday at 5:00. All are welcome. Bring your lawn chair. A love offering will be held at both events for their expenses. For more information call the church at 608-647-4141.

The Pine Valley Foundation will be hosting their annual drive thru & dine in Chicken BBQ Sunday, June 22 from 11:00a to 1:00p, or until sold out, at Pine Valley Community Village. The chicken meal is $14 and the kids hotdog meal is $5. Monty Berger will be performing at 1pm.

The Buena Vista Lions Club will host a Car Cruise Sunday, June 22, from 1:00p to 4:00p at Buena Vista Bicentennial Park in Gotham. Concessions will be available for purchase.
