Wood, Adams counties (WFHR, WIRI)

United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties held a diaper drive between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day that collected 22,061 items for local families in need!  This is an increase of 48% over last year.

“According to ALICE data*, 27% of Wood County and 36% of Adams County families with children struggle to make ends meet. The diaper drive helps those who need the most support,” said Tari Jahns, United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties CEO.  “We are uniquely positioned to recognize and address the greatest needs in the community and the addition of this annual event demonstrates the generosity of the communities we serve.”

Diapers, wipes, creams, and monetary donations were donated by community members along with a grant from the Aspirus Riverview Foundation.  Local partners, Juneau-Adams WIC, First Choice Pregnancy Resource Center, FOCUS of SWC, and Wisconsin Rapids Family Center, will distribute donations to families in south Wood and Adams Counties.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to the local diaper drive! Your support helps ensure that every child in our shelter is met with care and comfort during a time of great transition. We are honored to be part of such a compassionate community,” said Amy Scheide, Wisconsin Rapids Family Center Administrative Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator.

*ALICE data refers to information about Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed households. These are households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford the basic costs of living in their specific location.
