GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW) – Fresh produce, flowers, local products, and arts and crafts come to The Green Bay Saturday Farmer’s Market at South Washington and Doty Streets downtown starting this weekend.
Lamyai Phaxay-Kizzee, the Farmer’s Market Manager, says the 107-year-old Green Bay Saturday Farmer’s Market operates every Saturday, rain or shine, until October 26th from 7 am until Noon. She adds there is bound to be something for everyone.
“We have over 100 vendors,” said Kizzee. “Right now, I can’t be exact but about 130 vendors on any given week.”
This farmer’s market guarantees that the produce, packaged foods, and arts and crafts are produced, harvested, or made locally. Kizzee says they can make that guarantee because they visit the farms.
“Actually, our first farm visit is scheduled in about a month,” said Kizzee. “That’s just because we’re waiting for some of the harvest to come in.”
Going to the farmer’s market isn’t just about buying produce or flowers or locally produced meats. It’s also about making memories.
“When I was a child, this is what we did,” said Kizzee. “This is what we did with our family. It’s creating a space for those memories where they’re able to take a stroll and say, ‘You know, I did this with my parents.’”
This farmer’s market has added programs such as live entertainment, a food court, and programs like yoga, but Kizzee says the main focus will always be the market itself.
“We do get a lot of out-of-towners come as well. And they haven’t seen anything like it,” said Kizzee. “We are a true, true farmers market. Our market ratio, which we try to really live by, is 70% produce, 20% packaged foods, and 10% arts and crafts.”
The Saturday Farmer’s Market is a part of Downtown Green Bay. It’s sponsored by BayCare Clinic.
