Appleton releases flooding recovery resource

APPLETON, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – The City of Appleton has been seeking recovery assistance for residents affected by the flooding from extremely heavy rains on July 5 and 13th. Following the flooding, many homeowners found their insurance policies had only limited coverages for the types of losses incurred. City officials announced a flooding recovery resource list that is available on the United Way Fox Cities’ website.

In a press release, Wednesday, Appleton officials say they’ve consulted with Outagamie County Emergency Management, Wisconsin Emergency Management, legislators, and the Governor’s office. They’ve also reached out to financial institutions, philanthropic organizations, and community members to find resources or financial assistance.

The damage and number of properties affected by the flooding don’t meet the minimum requirements for Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA funds.

“While the City of Appleton had hoped to secure individual financial support through the extensive governmental and non-governmental outreach conducted over the last several weeks, we are grateful to the many partners who have offered assistance and support in the ways that they could,” the press release said.

Homeowners have blamed the city’s maintenance of the storm and sewer system for causing the flooding. Appleton Jake Woodford says that the storm water system worked as it should.
