GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – The Green Bay Area School District Board of Education planned to vote on a rewritten job description for the superintendent during its meeting Monday night. However, the board tabled the vote until October. This delay will give them more time to fix wording they considered too general.

“The document (job description) as it is written is too general in that it lacks specificity of objectives–particularly key performance indicators. That the superintendent’s role should be accountable for,” Trustee Rick Crosson said.

Trustee Kou Lee also wanted to see more performance indicators worked into the job description.

“I think that this job description needs to be a little bit more focused with our KPI,” Lee said

Crosson said the strategic plan should come before the job description. Trustee Lynn Gerlach also thinks the strategic plan should drive the superintendent’s job description.

“I hope that through strategic planning we will clearly identify where we are now, very accurately and very openly. And then identify where we want to be in x number of years,” said Gerlach. Then we’ll be able to identify the kind of leader that will have to take us there, starting tomorrow and moving forward. And I would like the job description to reflect that.”

The school board began the process of revamping the job description of the Superintendent following the resignation of Dr. Claude Tiller in February. Tiller resigned following controversy over statements he made while appearing as a guest on an Atlanta radio show. The Board named Vicki Bayer as Interim Superintendent while the board searches for its 3rd superintendent in 5 years. The Board has not yet advertised the opening to accept applications.

The GBAPS Board voted to come back with clearer wording on objectives and performance indicators in the job description. Its next meeting is October 15th.
