GREEN BAY, WI- (WGBW) – The Green Bay Area Public School (GBAPS) District issued a statement this week announcing that the District’s logo should not be used in campaign materials for school board candidates.
The statement from the GBAPS administration came after a community member contacted the District about election materials distributed by school board candidates that included the GBAPS logo, implying that the district had publicly endorsed those candidates.
In a press release, the District said the candidates responsible for those election materials had been notified by District outside legal counsel not to use the image.
“The District recognizes that this was an honest misunderstanding of the permissible use of the District’s trademarked logo and a lack of awareness of Board policy,” GBAPS said in a press release. Board policy 853 prohibits using the logo or any other images representing the school district to promote candidates for public office.
