Oshkosh Council approves over $47 million for water filtration upgrade

OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)—The Oshkosh Common Council approved an amendment to the Capital Improvement Project to spend over $47 million dollars on clearwell replacement at the water filtration plant.

Public Works Director James Rabe told the council that this upgrade has been in the works for decades. 

“This is a project that has been in the works for about two decades,” Rabe said. “It first started with a notification from the Department of Natural Resources on an inspection in 2007 that our clearwell storage tanks did not meet current code. Since that time, we’ve worked on numerous studies, several design changes, and multiple public information meetings. It’s been a, a very long process.”

In addition to awarding the bid for the clearwell replacement in the amount of $47,629,600, the Common Council also voted to approve a contract in the amount of $3,949,900 for construction support for the water filtration plant upgrade.

Rabe said construction will be a very lengthy process. Contractors will do it in phases. He expects it to take about 30 months to complete.
